Former Tianjin University President Expelled
Adjust font size:

A former Tianjin University president, Shan Ping, has been suspended from his post in the municipal legislature due to a "serious breach of duty".

The 33rd Session of the 14th Standing Committee of the Tianjin Municipal People's Congress announced on Tuesday that it had voted to expel Shan Ping from his post as a deputy to the 10th National People's Congress.

Born in 1946, Shan was alleged to have made serious mistakes during his term as university president and caused significant losses, said Liu Shengyu, deputy secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Tianjin Municipal Committee.

The Tianjin Municipal People's Congress had already submitted its decision to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress for approval. The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC was said to be investigating the allegations against Shan but no details are available.
