The City University of Hong Kong awarded honorary doctorates to Chinese Minister of Science and Technology Xu Guanhua and two other prominent individuals in Hong Kong Wednesday.

 

 

Xu Guanhua, Chinese Minister of Science and Technology, receives Honorary Doctorate of Science in The City University of Hong Kong, November 15, 2006. The university awarded honorary doctorates to three prominent individuals in Hong Kong Wednesday.

 

 

Liu Changle, Chairman and Chief Executive of Phoenix Satellite TV Holdings Ltd, receives Honorary Doctorate of Letters in The City University of Hong Kong, November 15, 2006.

 

 

Rosie Tse-tse, Honorary Professor of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong, receives Honorary Doctorate of Science in The City University of Hong Kong, November 15, 2006.

 

At the university's 2006 Congregation, the three recipients received honorary doctorates from Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang in recognition of their academic achievements and social contributions.

 

Xu Guanhua, who received Honorary Doctor of Science, is an expert in remote sensing application science and geographical information systems and an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

 

Xu has led many national research and development projects into key technologies and many international research collaborations. His outstanding achievements have brought him many national prizes and he has presented many influential papers at international conferences.

 

Speaking at the ceremony, Xu said that the best opportunity in the modern history has come for China to develop science and technology.

 

And Hong Kong, based on the advanced science and technology infrastructure, an extensive global network, a full-fledged intellectual property rights protection system and a sound climate for industrialization, will play an even more important role in the science and technology advancement for China.

 

Also at the same ceremony, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Satellite TV Holdings Ltd. Liu Changle and Honorary Professor of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong Rosie Tse-tse Young were conferred Honorary Doctor of Letters and Honorary Doctor of Science respectively.
