The Lau-Mak award-winning directing duo's new film Confession of Pain will try to win bigger audiences in December, competing with Zhang Yimou's Curse of Golden Flower.

Director Andrew Lau and Alan Mak were joined by lead actresses Chi Hsu and Xu Jinglei to attend a press conference in Hangzhou on Tuesday. The two lead actors weren't present. 　　

As Confession of Pain and Zhang's high-profile film Curse of Golden Flower will be shown in cinemas during the same time period, journalists' questions focused on box office concerns. 　

But Andrew Lau seemed to not be very concerned, saying that he believes audiences can make their own choices. 　　

Earlier reports claimed that the two actresses only have small performances in this film. Hsu and Xu both expressed that they were just fortunate to be able to act alongside these big actors. 　　

Armed with a production budget of US$10 million and a stellar cast, the film tells the story of a veteran detective and a private investigator's probe into a gruesome murder case.
