Beijing will earmark 148 million yuan (US$18.9 million) next year to renovate ancient buildings inside scenic parks as the city pretties itself up for the 2008 Olympics. The maintenance work will be carried out in 11 parks, including the Summer Palace and the Temple of Heaven, two UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Beijing Invests in Water Projects Ahead of Olympics
The Chinese capital of Beijing is to invest 12.46 billion yuan (US$1.59 billion) between 2006 and 2010 to curb worsening water pollution, according to a plan issued on Wednesday. The move aims to guarantee a cleaner water supply for the city of 16 million ahead of the 2008 Olympic Games.
